Dune — Officially Delayed
The upcoming Denis Villeneuve movie has been officially delayed. This should not be too surprising given the current pandemic and the closure of Cinemark cinemas following the delay of the latest James Bond film ‘No Time to Die’. Dune was originally slated for 20th November 2020, before being delayed to 18th December 2020 due to non-pandemic reasons.
Official New Release
The new release date is now revealed to be 1st October 2021. The movie has a lot more chances of a financial success in this time period. Hopefully by this time, the major cinemas would be functioning optimally. Dune itself carries a unique story which might be difficult for the mainstream audience to comprehend:
It doesn’t have the creamy goodness of say a Star Wars movie in terms of getting all that. It’s not a sugary, it’s a more of a fore-course film than it is a romp. It requires a lot of thinking and understanding. I mean it’s a very talky thing. The script has a lot of taking in it. It’s got action too. It predisposes your audience will be smart. — RMB
Franchise
All in all, with the delay ultimately increasing the chances of success, this will also increase the chances of the eventual adaptation of the rest of the original Dune books, with a potential to adapt from the the expanded series too, just like with the prequel TV-show.

As a book reader who has already read the entirety of the series, aside from the two sequel books and the upcoming prequel, all of them were definitely worth the read. It is something I definitely recommend for those who are interested in long and complex reading.
In anticipation, there is also a graphic novel based the original Dune novel slated to release on the 10th December 2020. It will cover 1/3 of the story.
There will also be a graphic novel for the prequel book Dune: House Atreides. The graphic arts appear to be quite spectacular:
Finally, there is a remastered version coming out based on the 2000 Dune miniseries by SyFy. The show itself was largely regarded as a success, even spawning with the great James McAvoy (X-Men, Split) sequel Children of Dune. It is expected to release on the 16th November 2020.
It is unknown which cut of the miniseries this is based on. Based on the 276 minutes runtime, it will most likely be the uncensored TV cut.
There is a huge potential ahead. I would encourage promotion of Dune contents to your friends, neighbours and anyone who might be potentially interested. If this first film is successful, it will kick off a great science-fiction philosophical journey, witnessing the fall and rise of empires and the subsequent changes in culture and society over the eons.
A huge potential awaits.
